What mattress is better than Saatva?
Established in 2010, Saatva specializes in direct-to-consumer luxury bed mattress under 3 brand names: Saatva, Loom & Leaf, and Zenhaven. Pocketed coils offer the Saatva Classic a good amount of bounce near the top, and a luxurious top adds softness. As with all of the Saatva Company’s bed mattress, the Saatva Classic is provided by movers, rather than in a box.

The Saatva’s comfort system uses thinner layers of foam than numerous hybrid designs. These thinner layers of foam integrated with the Euro-top’s fiber fill take in some movement, minimizing how much motion is felt throughout the surface area of the bed. Sleepers may still experience some movement transfer when their partner changes position or gets up during the night due to the mattress’s two layers of springs. Thanks to its softer feel, the Plush Soft variation of the Saatva takes in somewhat more motion than the High-end Firm and Company options. While all of the Saatva firmness alternatives have pressure-relieving potential, the amount of pressure relief that an individual experiences on the mattress will differ based partially on their weight and sleep position. People who weigh under 130 pounds will likely experience the most press relief on the Plush Soft variation of the bed mattress, while sleepers over 230 pounds will likely get the best balance of contouring and assistance from the Company variation.
Note: Saatva just recently updated the Zenhaven, changing the kind of latex used in its foam layers. The Zenhaven now includes Dunlop latex, instead of Talalay latex; read more about the differences below. We plan to check the brand-new version quickly and will update this guide with our impressions.
The all-foam Zenhaven consists mostly of latex, which is fundamentally resilient. The Zenhaven is likewise flippable (the Luxury Plush side feels medium-firm, while the Gentle Firm side feels a bit firmer), which might prove practical if you’re unsure what you choose or if your needs alter in time. This is not a conventionally soft mattress, but it uses a flexible cushion, good edge support, and a subtle springiness. Offered its innate durability, the Zenhaven must work well for individuals who weigh more than 200 pounds.
For this evaluation, I slept on the Saatva Classic, the Loom & Leaf, and the Zenhaven mattresses for a number of weeks in my own house. These mattresses were also evaluated in our group tests conducted for Wirecutter’s guides to the finest foam bed mattress and the finest innerspring bed mattress. As Wirecutter’s senior staff author for sleep, I have actually talked to ratings of specialists in the bed mattress industry and in products science; gone to dozens of mattress display rooms, factories, and stores; and read the small print on specifications, guarantees, and return policies. Most recently, supervising editor Courtney Schley examined the Saatva Latex Hybrid in her home for a number of weeks.

We haven’t yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “environmentally friendly” brand names. However we do know that the company uses thistle pulp or natural wool as a flame retardant (rather than fiberglass or chemicals) and just natural cotton (instead of synthetic blends) in its covers. As do other online mattress companies, Saatva touts such bonus as zoned layers for “optimum spine support”; we’re less impressed with those functions and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive customer care and long lasting foams and coils.
